Should I move my blog to WordPress?

by Sharon

If you are like me many bloggers, you set up your first Blogger Blog in a moment of frenzied excitement, sent an email to your Mom exclaiming “I HAVE A BLOG!”, and then invested a lot of time, sweat and energy into making your new corner of the internet a little slice of heaven.

And then, after a few days/months/years on Blogger you start to hear this rumbling about WordPress. You hear how “it’s so much better” and how “you have to think about switching over”…

And of course, you start to wonder…. should I?

I’ve written in the past about what I consider to be the advantages and disadvantages of moving to WordPress.

I’ve also answered some of the most frequently asked questions that people have asked me about the transition.

And now I’ve compiled a list of questions that might help you reach a decision if this is the right move for YOU and YOUR BLOG…

  • Is your blog more than a hobby?
  • Does your blog generate income?
  • Do you aspire to have your blog earn money through ads or affiliates?
  • Are you hoping that your blog will grow larger and impact a broader audience?
  • Have you been feeling nervous that Blogger might shut down your blog?

If you have answered YES to any of these questions, then I think moving to WordPress might make sense for you to consider.

If you said NO to these questions, then I would recommend that you stay with Blogger – it’s a free, reliable platform that will give you more options than Typepad or WordPress.com (the freebie version of WordPress – it’s confusing, I know). For the casual, hobby blogger who wants keep up with family and friends Blogger is the perfect solution.

Hi Sharon,

Penny from The Saved Quarter told me that you set up her blog site. I was curious as to what font she has. It appears that you have the same one too. I LOVE it, and am hoping that I can change to it as well. I’m not interested in changing to WordPress (just yet), but I would love to update my blog.

Thanks for your help!

Sharon

Sharon,
I think you were describing me when you said you first started your blog, I was the same way. I was so excited. I love to write stories. I love to find ways for everyone to save money on everything. I’m not sure if I have the best “content” to be worthy to change to ‘Word Press’. I need to work on a lot of stuff. But, my friends tell, me they don’t understand how to “follow” my blog. It seemed like it would be easy. But, I am so technically challenged, I get so frustrated trying to “fix” things, that I want to pull my hair out. There’s not much left to pull. lol I really like your “style”. It’s very easy to read and understand. So, I might be interested in your help. I just don’t want to invest a lot of money right now until, I see which direction I’m going. I’m 57 years old, and haven’t known that in a few years.
Love, luck, and laughter,
Paula Hardin

Thank you for this information.

I’m really considering moving from Blogger to Wordpress. I’d love a more professional looking blog. I love what you did with A Nut in a Nutshell’s blog.
