(blame it on chocolate deprivation)

by Sharon on December 13, 2010

I mentioned a time or two, that I’ve been working to get back into shape using (the very very very hard) P90X.

If I was doing P90X right, I would be working out six days a week, plus a day of stretching.

I’m doing it three times a week, and there are days I’m so tired that I can barely wash my hair.

It kicks my butt.

Within the thirteen videos that you cycle through, there is one particular workout that is absolutely killer. It’s affectionately referred to as “The Beast” within the P90X community.

Let me assure you, “the Beast” is aptly named. It’s sixty minutes of high impact, non-stop, oh-my-gosh-I-think-I’m-going-to-faint, jumping, hopping, leaping, jumping, panting, and jumping.

Lots and lots of jumping.

Last night, I found myself telling my super-fit, athletic-champion girlfriend about this particular workout, trying to describe the intense pain and exhaustion that ensues.

{I figured, she would understand, since she likes torturing herself winning triathlons.}

I told her “There is this one video called Pyrometrics that is absolutely impossible! I can barely walk when we’re done. Literally, I’m dead on the floor. Pyrometrics is HARD! You should try it. Oh wait, you’re eight months pregnant. Well when you’re not pregnant look up Pyrometrics. You’ll love it!”

I couldn’t quite understand the strange look that passed over her face, so I kept at it…

“There is this one option in Pyrometrics where you have to hop on one foot for over minute. You’re trying to draw a little cross on the floor without falling over, and IT’s. SO. HARD! You won’t believe it! My legs are about to fall off when we’re done”

And then she started to laugh…

She said “are you talking about PLYOmetrics Sharon?”

Oh.

Oops.

Right. Not pyrometrics.

That would involve fire.

And burning things down.

Right.

Plyometrics. It’s a BEAST.
