Winter Carnival, Cooperstown Style

by Sharon on February 15, 2010

As you probably realize, Cooperstown, NY is famous.

During the ten weeks of summer, folks flock from all over the world to visit the shrine of all things Baseball.

And because I am not much of a baseball fan, and because I think Cooperstown should be famous for other things (like pumpkins and blueberries) I’ve made it my mission in life to spread the word about everything else offered by America’s perfect village.

(Well, it’s not really my mission in life.  It’s more like a soap box.  Or maybe even just a pet peeve.  But that’s a topic for another day).

Last weekend Cooperstown had their annual Winter Carnival. There is tubing and ice fishing and wine tasting and disco dancing. For a small town, people really get their groove on.

They also had the first ever, Cooperstown Winter Carnival Dog Show. And given the choice between disco dancing and dog shows, I went with the canines.

The Little Man was pretty eager to meet up with some new friends. Woof is one of the few words he knows so I think he feels like he’s got the inside scoop on doggese.

Plus he’s got that darn cute dog hat.

And not being disappointed, we saw some pretty handsome pooches.

All very friendly and happy to say hello

We also saw some dogs who dressed up for the occasion – apparently it was a Wild West theme this year and the dogs (or more likely their owners) were eager to oblige.

See what I mean? Forget Baseball, Hall of Fame Inductions and the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.  That’s so 2009.

The Cooperstown Winter Carnival Dog Show…. it’s where the action’s at!

Cooperstown, sounds like a fun place to visit. I still want to go to that pumpkin festival! Love the little western wear dogs.
