In my head, it seems very silly to spend good money on a haircut for a two year old.
How hard can it be?
A little snip here, a little tuck there…
Right?
Thankfully my son isn’t vain.
(And his father hasn’t seen the damage yet)
Oi.
Sometimes saving money can be painful.
UPDATE: I Googled “how to cut a toddler’s hair” and learned that I should have used clippers instead of scissors.
It’s true.
I’m Googling my way through motherhood.
Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Oh, that is a wonderfully worded post! LOVE IT googling your way through!, lol. (Don't we all? lol) I've butchered many a head, lol. I finally bought those clippers too. When my son was about 14. ha ha ha!
I'm with Sheila. What a great post!!
Your first attempt far exceeds my 100th. I don't know WHY my husband still asks me to do it…
Oh my. It is a little different that is for sure : ). I LOVE that you are googling your way thru motherhood. I am RIGHT THERE beside you for sure! Tonight I had to google how to do my sons math problems. And he is in flipping fourth grade. I am afraid too!
PS Your sweetie will look cute even with crooked hair : )
He is still adorable.
Oh Sharon don't feel bad I do the same to my husband a couple a years ago and he went to work, lol.
Yes – I did it.. I googled…
Woopsie.
(At this point, I sometimes think I am googling my way through life, why should motherhood be different?)
Ha! Too cute! I actually did a post on getting my 3 year old's hair buzzed yesterday at a stylist. Then, I found out on a forum that a lot of people cut their own kid's hair with clippers. I didn't even think about Googling it! What a good idea!
Hair grows back quickly, so don't feel too bad! I had to learn to cut my husband's hair when we got married… and now we do cut the boys hair and save bunches of money!
LOLOL, don't feel bad…that looks like the first haircut I gave my husband!!!
Hey, at least you didn't try this the day before picture day!
I totally understand! I started cutting my son's hair when he was 13mos. I've learned to cut in layers, and hope he holds still long enough to get the majority of the length shortened. It's definitely a good thing they don't know how interesting they look when/if we mess it up!
LOL !! Oh my gosh – that is the answer to everything anymore. Google it !! I love it !! First stop to your blog – love it. I became a follower !
Hahaha! I cut all of my kids' hair, and I can honestly say that I hate it. But I refuse to pay for the salon. What's sad is the one time I took my son in to the salon, he moved and got a HORRIBLE hair line above one ear.
Oh my! Well, he's still very cute and little boy hair grows so fast it'll hardly be long before its back to needing cut again! And now you know how thanks to Googlecuts.com!
Lol. I am googling my way through motherhood also! Oh and with a little help from my sister and sister in law. Cute post as always!
We hae done this before…most recently we bought a haircut kit at Costco…thankfully we did OK becasue he's 8 and would have killed us.
LOL, that was a good one!!!
Thankfully 2 year olds are clueless about hair, and lots of times, toddler hair grows out a mess anyway..heehee.
He is so cute, I'm sure a bad haircut will go unnoticed. I too have googled many a parenting issue!
Oh Sharon you did great for it being your first time! If you looked closer, Peter's hair wasn't all perfect either! I only did the straight cut in the lower back of his hair (close to the top of his neck line) and did the rest with a comb and the scissors (so it would look like it's layered). You know what? He didn't really care how it looked (just me). I only use clippers when my other boys' hair got coarser (when they were about 5 years old). It is too easy to snip their soft skin when they are young. If you do use the clippers be very careful especially when cutting around the ears.
On the Googling part, I think I found my new school! LOL!
Peter turned 22 months old today (the 19th). Is your Little Man turning 22 months in a week?
It doesn't look THAT bad…Really don't be so hard on yourself!
The first time I tried to cut my son's hair I cut it straight across the front. I was so embarrassed when I ended up having to take him to the barber after all and get it fix. I have clippers now and do a much better job at trimming their hair.
My WW Post! Have a great day.
Oh my goodness… I totally snorted when I read your "I'm googling my way through motherhood" line. That is truly classic! And I am sure most of us would admit to googling some parenting topic – especially our first time around!
The beauty of hair is that it grows so quick
I should know… the "temporary" dye that the stylist put on my 3 year old's hair FOUR WEEKS AGO is still a lovely shade of purple/red on his bangs. Grow, please grow!
Your kiddo looks pretty stinkin' cute – probably the only time in his life he can rock ANY hairstyle, right?
That's hilarious! I know you can't be the first one and thank heavens it will grow! Still a cutie pie though!
I LOVE it! I often feel like I am googling my way through motherhood! You're a brave mama! I've thought about cutting our daughter hair but then I think back to the poodle I had, tried to cut his hair and he looked like lamb chop. Our poor girl might be bald if mama does it.
LOL!!

I did the same thing when my son was 2. Now we have a system. My husband uses the clippers and I use the shears to blend it all. It looks great (actually we did this over the weekend).
"I'm googling my way through motherhood." I LOVE that!!
You totally crack me up! I just did the baby's bangs straight across and he totally looks like a little amish baby. I'm not so sure that's a good thing.
At least where you live, it's cold enough to necessitate a hat or hood when you go out. But I think it looks adorable as is!
The things we do to our children to save a couple of bucks…(I'm right there with you.)
LOL! "I'm googling my way through motherhood" That is the BEST line EVER! I love it
Don't worry about your son's hair. It will grow back.
you're kidding right ….
BM
Keep it up! Practice makes perfect! Between my mom and my husband, I haven't paid for a haircut in years. His dad does all the men's hair in our family and it looks great!
Too funny!
Get him a hat.
That is funny. I wouldn't have thought to google it! Nice. My kids have super curly hair so their first haircuts were easy and you couldn't see the errors haha!
Great post! He's a cutie no matter what.
Googling your way through motherhood- aren't we all ? He looks fine!
So cute! It will grow back:-)
I have had to cut my boys' hair in the interest of saving money and I absolutely hate it. Thankfully they're not as picky about such things as I apparently am.
LOL!!!! I've had to cut my little guy's hair and the first time wasn't too pretty, either! I *did* use clippers, but had a hard time with which guard was the right length!
His hair cuts still aren't the greatest… but, hopefully by the time he's aware of his looks, I'll be better at it!
Or, he'll be old enough that I'll be willing to give him the same "military" haircut as daddy's. I'm just not ready for that, yet… want a little more hair on my little boy!!
Oh… I'm a google'ing what-should-I do mom, too!
I google my way through alot and it is always a wonder what i learn
I tell myself I"m practicing on my son's head until he begins school and if I don't get any better then I'll send him to a salon, but I think I am getting better
You will too and I love the googling
Just put a cute hat on him and call it good when your in public until it grows out alittle more
We use clippers around here and buzz cut everyone…no bed head and it's cheap!! For my little girl I cut her's a couple times…just trimmed end..then I broke down and took her this last time….
hahaha!! So funny!! You! He's still adorable!!
LOL, you crack me up.
I'm amazed I got through raising my two when they were little WITHOUT Google!
Happy WW!
awww, funny and cute!
funny post, we attempted to cut our sons hair once and that was it now he goes to my salon, but they give us a good deal since I am a regular
OK, I have to apologize in advance, but this is seriously the most awesome post ever. I laughed, I showed it to my husband and he laughed. Thank you so much for that. Mostly, I am appreciative of this post because my husband keeps telling me I can do it myself and now he agrees that I should take our son to the salon always. LOL
I love your blog! You keep me laughing.
p.s. I use google all the time.
Ah Shanyn! A kindred spirit!
Glad to know I’m not the only one…. and it’s definitely good that my son has no sense of fashion. Poor little dude!
