How to Save on Satellite Radio

by Sharon on January 26, 2010

I’ll admit it. I love our Satellite Radio.  In our television free world, the radio brings us the evening news, music from all over the world and Old Time Radio shows.

It’s the bomb.

And since I’m also a big fan of saving money, I was one happy camper when I found a way to make our satellite radio more affordable!

Here’s what I learned:

  • XM Radio offers a “family friendly package” which will save you $1 every month ($11.95 vs $12.95)
  • You can get a music only option for $9.99 per month or a similar package for only Sports/News/Talk channels at the same price
  • You can save money if you make a “long term commitment.”  If you have the cash to pay for three years up front that will save you some bucks.
  • There is NO CONTRACTUAL obligations – if you decide to cancel your account, you will get the entire unused portion of your payment refunded.
  • You can break your bill up into two payments without any increased cost.  For example, you have an annual bill of $150 you can pay $75 in January and $75 in February.  No penalty!

The whole low down is listed here.  I hope this info helps you save some money!

{Since XM and Sirius have recently merged, I suspect that this will apply to both companies. We have XM so I know it works for them!}

You can also call the XM number and tell them you are cutting back and considering cancelling. They will transfer you to a cancellation dept and give you a year for $75. We are on year 2 of this halfprice deal. (We first found out about it on slickdeals). Love your blog. Thanks!
