Tis the Season

by Sharon on December 1, 2009

In our little corner of the world, the weekend after Thanksgiving is not characterized by shopping.

It’s not Black Friday around here…

It’s Blaze Orange Saturday.

When you live in the middle of no-where you share the neighborhood with lots of critters. And when it’s deer hunting season, those critters attract a lot of hunters.

So even though Blaze Orange isn’t in my color wheel, we are all sporting some rather garish attire for the next ten days.

Blaze Orange doesn’t blend in.

It stands out nice and bold and bright and non-deer like.

And for two weeks, I’ve made it mandatory that we all wear some of it when we’re outside.

All of us.

(Not too many dogs could pull this off, but I think he holds his own. God Bless German Shorthair Pointers – they love hunting season.)

(And no, I don’t have a picture of me wearing my hat. I was wearing it but you’ll just have to trust me on that one – there have to be some perks when you stay behind the camera!)

I think everyone looks quite dapper! Don't need to wear bright orange around here (and for me, that's a VERY good thing).

I would prefer the occasional gun shot (at deer, of course) to the crowds and mayhem of Black Friday. Looks like you found the perfect way to spend the after-Thanksgiving weekend.

After we had spent the weekend wandering around outdoors, the camp director's wife at the camp where we stayed for Thanksgiving said that they never go outside this time of year without orange hats on. Eek! Thankfully we stayed safe!

Yes…better to wear blaze orange than to be mistaken for a deer! Your boys…and the dog…wear it well!

Peace.

It's so smart to put something orange on the dog! Great idea!

I bet you look cute in your blaze orange as well, but I've got to agree with the perks of being the one behind the camera.

Good morning SITSta!
Great post. You know, I never thought about sending the kids out in hunter's orange. We just recently moved and there's a huge private wooded area across the road where people come strictly to hunt. We're also on a heavily wooded 35 acre lot. We recently moved from a heavily wooded gated community, but hunting was prohibited so I never even thought about wearing hunter's orange. I'm definitely going to need to remedy that. Thanks so much for the post. Love, love, love your blog. :)

Hello fellow SITSta! I need your help!

Could you vote for me in Iron Cupcake?

(I am campaigning for votes….because I put a lot of time and detail into my cupcake)

I am currently behind The Baker’s Remix……boo..L

If there is anything I can do for you in the future don’t hesitate to ask! (When I say this I am completely serious!)
