Our Wall of Fame

by Sharon on September 15, 2009

There is one wall in our house that holds some big pieces of our hearts.  It’s covered with pictures of the family and friends we hold dear.

Every morning, Nature Boy gets the Little Guy out of his crib and carries him down the hall to say good morning to those folks who love him most.

It’s become a wonderful little ritual and I pause whatever I’m doing to hear the same refrain….*

There’s Grammie and Grampie…
and Aunt Ali…  Aunt Lizzi and JD
There’s Daddy and Mommy…
Uncle Alex…
Uncle Bob…
There’s Daddy with Grammy!**
And the Hulls… and the Herleys…
There’s Daddy with his dad when he was a little boy…

Thirteen picture frames that give our son glimpses of the people who love him most.

Our wall of fame indeed.

*most of the time when this is happening I’m still in bed, so it’s not particularly hard to “pause whatever I’m doing.”  But it sounded good, don’t ya think?

**yes, my son has two Grammies.  I don’t mean that it’s unusual to have two grandmothers, but unfortunately both of these wonderful women were christened Grammie before I met my husband.  We haven’t figured out how to resolve this little naming redundancy so we’re taking the ‘wait and see what happens’ approach.  Anyone else have two grammies named Grammie?***

*** by the way, I have no idea if Grammie is spelled with an “ie” or a “y” — I went with the “ie” option because if you write down that your son has two “Grammys” it sounds like he’s a musical prodigy or something…  ~smile~

Love your wall of fame! I want to do the same in our house, too. I LOVE those frames!

Both our grandmother's were 'Grandma' to us… :)

Happy WW! :)

I love the wall of fame! Found you from SITS and Im glad I stopped by. This is just a great ritual. My m-i-l has deemed herself Grammy. and my mom has decided whatever the grandkids want to call her is fine with her. We'll see what happens when the little one starts talking to what names he chooses himself.

What a great idea! Especially if you have long distance relatives. Just stopping by from SITS!

What a beautiful display- I love the B&Ws in the distressed frames! In theory, my son has a Grandma and a Granny, but his best attempt at saying Grandma sounds just like Mama which is what he calls me. We have to pay attention to the context to figure out who he's talking about. :) My college roommate has a Grandma I and a Grandma J.
