Keeping the Stink Out

by Sharon on September 15, 2009

Here are a few shots of our son’s nursery…

What you don’t see is a garbage pail (or a diaper genie, for that matter!).

And the reason you don’t see one is  because we don’t have one.

We figured that if we put a diaper pail in his room we would put smelly diapers in there.  And since smelly diapers are in fact smelly, his room would become so too.

(Brilliant, I know. That Ivy League education really paid off)

Instead I throw the diapers away in the bathroom garbage pail.

And here is the genius behind my plan…  Nature Boy hates to see dirty diapers in the bathroom trash can (I think it reminds him of our clothe diapering debacle), so each night he dumps the pail out in the kitchen.

Tada!  No smelly nursery.

This Works for Me!

Now if we could just do something about the clean diapers…!

Stopping by from SITS! Now if I had kids, this would be a great idea. I used to babysit for a family who did the diaper pail in the bedroom and it did smell *that way* for a good 2 years until potty training was in place. Good idea!

I don't have a diaper pail either. We take the dirty diapers into the kitchen trash (it has a lid). This is also great encouragement to empty the kitchen garbage every day!

We do have a diaper genie in his room but it doesn't smell bad most of the time. I do agree that throwing them in the kitchen trash is the best. We seem to fill that the most and then it ends up going outside quicker! I do think that the diaper genie is a waste of money though since you have to buy the refills! If we have another baby we will either do what you do or use a diaper champ!

Hope your week is going well!

I used cloth diapers at home and when visiting family or friends and disposables to go out in public. I did not use a diaper pail in the nursery either. I kept it in the bathroom for cloth diapers. I just threw the soiled disposables in a trash container when I was out.

I'm stopping by from SITs.

We did have a Diaper Genie but we rarely used the thing. Instead we just threw the dirty diaper in a plastic bag and ran it outside in the bin.

My daughter also likes to make a mess out of her clean diapers. I find them spread across the living room a lot.

that's exactly what I do! I didn't want to waste money on diaper genie refills!

Love your blog!:-)
