Almost eight years ago I opened up my e-mail and found a message that changed my life. It was a note from a Nature Boy who happened to know some mutual friends from college…
“I hear we have a lot in common…” he wrote, “would you like to meet for lunch?”
At the time I was hustling through a fast-paced corporate life, residing in a small house just outside of New York City. He was living 3,000 miles west on a remote, cattle ranch in Northern California.
Needless to say, there weren’t a lot of similarities in our day to day existence.
And where do you meet for lunch when you live on opposite coasts of the country – Chicago?
Yet despite the incredible ridiculousness of it all, I ended up marrying Nature Boy three years later. And this city girl spent yesterday in the garden, learning to tell the difference between the weeds and the plants, delighting over the antics of our son, and sharing the joy of two very different lives converging.
I think God is still chuckling.

Congratulations! I loved this…I also have a sweet "nature boy" (my hubby grew up on a farm in Kansas and I in the suburbs of Chicago). We are coming up on our 8th year too. Funny…
How fun! Good thing you were open to knew things! Look what you would have missed.
Thanks – A definite case of opposites attract!
