I realized this morning, that despite the fact that he’s only 14 months old, it’s time for our little man to get his first passport. We’ll be visiting my husband’s family for a week in July and cutting through Ontario saves us over 5 hours of driving time.
And while I knew that the immigration standards had changed with the Canadian border and that passports would be a necessary component to our little shortcut, my mommyfied brain just didn’t capture the nuanced reality that all three of us would need one.
Oops. We might be cutting it a little close.
The good news is that I have a free source of passport photos – ePassportPhoto.com is a very simple way to print out your own passport pictures (as opposed to paying $10 for the drugstore clerk to do it for you). The directions are straight forward, and I had a “mug shot” printed out in proper format within 10 minutes. We’ll be hustling it down the village clerk as soon as nap time is over and hope for fast turn around!
Check it out if you are planning to travel soon.

Thanks! We are getting passports for all of our children and this will save us almost $40!
Good news! Actually children under the age of 16 years only need their birth certificate! Makes sense since they would outgrow their passport photo every year!
Oh be still my heart! One Mom, that is GREAT news!
I had originally looked at the consulate website and it said that children do need passports, but after your comment I did a more thorough search and see that for DRIVING they only need a birth certificate.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
